A Fun-Filled Weekend

This past weekend was a fun and busy one for the three of us. On Saturday, we hosted a TGISummer picnic for a bunch of our friends from the lab, and on Sunday, we ventured into San Francisco to celebrate Amy's birthday with dim sum and Italian desserts.

Picnic

We had a beautiful day for Saturday's potluck picnic in our backyard. One of the picnic's featured foods was frozen desserts-on-a-stick--including popsicles and fudgesicles--reminders of summers when we were younger. Though Caden is still too little to enjoy popsicles, his friend Owen (Amy & Brian's 6-month old) seemed to really enjoy his introduction to these quintessential summertime treats. After a few hours of conversations above his head, being passed back and forth, and playing with his toys, Caden was ready for a good nap on his blanket in the grass.

San Francisco

Our trip into the city on Sunday was a day of more "firsts" for little Caden: his first boat ride (we took the ferry from Larkspur across San Francisco Bay to the city) and his first venture into a big city. We landed at the ferry building and explored the city on foot, with Caden in the Baby Bjorn. We first walked along the Embarcadero and up into Chinatown, where we enjoyed dim sum (sweet and savory dumplings and other snack-type foods) with friends from BML. After dim sum, we had pastries at an Italian bakery in North Beach, explored Chinatown shops, stopped at the Britex fabric store, and then took the ferry back across the Bay.
