Escaping the Heat

With temperatures over 100 degrees this past weekend, we spent a lot of time keeping Caden--and ourselves--cool. On Saturday, Caden spent most of the afternoon in the shade of the walnut tree in our backyard. He especially enjoyed splashing in his bathtub. Later that afternoon, Caden's Auntie Erika and Uncle Brad arrived. They spent three nights with us, and we all had a lot of fun finding creative ways to beat the heat. Below are some examples of our strategies.

Can you believe that this is Bodega Bay?

On Sunday, we went wine tasting (focusing on wineries with air-conditioned tasting rooms), then headed for the coast, where sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures beckoned. One of the highlights of the day (and the entire weekend) was cooling off in the SCUBA training facility at BML. Caden watched from his blanket on the deck while we took turns swimming. On Monday, Caden got to see two geological marvels of Sonoma County: the "Old Faithful" geyser and the petrified redwood forest. However, after a half day of sightseeing in the jungle hot inland regions, we all headed for the coast to join Cascade (who was working at the lab) and find some cooler weather. We sat on the beach and went for a nice walk, then headed back to Sebastopol.

In other news...

Caden has graduated from sleeping in a pack 'n' play in our room to sleeping in his crib in his very own room. He really seems to like it (who wouldn't like a fancy bed like that?!), though we miss being able to glance over at him from our bed and listening to the cute gurgles, coos, grunts, and other sounds he makes in his sleep.

Looks like a lot of fun at the coast! Wish we'd beend there. Funny to see Caden overflowing his bathtub--it wasn't that long ago he was a tiny fish in a big pond. So glad you all got together!
